Choosing the Right Outdoor Playset For your Child’s Age May 17, 2023 12:00 pm

Outdoor play is essential for all, but even more so for children. With the rise of technology and screens, some kids lost the beauty of the great outdoors to spend all day inside looking at a screen. But outdoor play remains an important part of your child’s health, and the best and easiest way to get them safely outside is to choose the right playset for their age.

Playsets Under 2

While children are 2 and under they are not as hardy as when they’re a bit older, but playing is an important part of development. Children 2 and under need somewhere safe to learn to crawl, stand, and walk. Sturdy wooden playsets are best and they should include stairs and ramps with safety railings to allow a chance to balance, but not climb over. Naturally, bucket swings should be a part of this playset since they’re ideal for babies and toddlers. Tunnels and open slides may also be a great addition with proper supervision.

Playsets 2-5

Kids in their preschool era years start getting more adventurous. You can begin adding rock climbing areas and ladders to inspire your child to climb and use their feet in conjunction with their hands. Safety handles should also be added, however. The open slides can be exchanged for tubes and spiral slides, to add to the adventure and give them a new challenge to climb. This is also when it’s a great time to introduce regular belt swings, just make sure your swing beam is lower to ensure a safe swinging height.

Playsets 6-9

Children in this group have more strength, motor skills, and agility than ever before. They will want to be even more adventurous than their younger peers. So the best way to do that is to add safe yet challenging parts to their playset. Consider large rock-climbing ramps, tall ladders and chain ladders, advanced slides, and monkey bars to really challenge your kids.

Playsets 10+

For children over 10, you really need to start making advanced playsets. You can do so by adding sky lofts, tire swings, bridges, and ropes to climb. If you want to know more about choosing the right outdoor playset for your child’s age please contact us at 732-294-7700 in Freehold, NJ!
